Appears: Summer into fall.

Beneficial: The wheel bug is part of the assassin bugs and preys on insects considered defoliators such as beetles and caterpillars. Unfortunately, they also consume Lady Beetles and Honey Bees.

Size: 25.4 – 31.75 mm long

The wheel bug has a “fang” on the front of its head and kills its prey with a stabbing motion. It can also stab humans if handled, causing a painful wound.
